The main objective for The Watauga Teen Project is to reach the teens who struggle. In order to best fit their needs and fill the gaps they face within their daily life and in their community, here is a free and online resource as a safe and positive space to find ways to help themselves online and in their community.

In 2019...One in six U.S. children between the ages of 6 and 17 has a treatable mental health disorder such as depression, anxiety problems or attention deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).The analysis also found that nearly half of children with these disorders did not receive counseling or treatment from a mental health professional such as a psychiatrist, psychologist or clinical social worker.

In 2017...20 percent of Americans under the age of 18 suffer from mental, behavioral, or emotional disorders. (That translates to approximately 15 million children across the country, according to 2010 U.S. Census figures.) The most common disorders include ADHD, depression, conduct problems, autism, substance abuse, and Tourette’s syndrome. Yet estimates show that almost half of all children with those emotional or psychological conditions don’t receive either medication or psychological services.

In 2016...Serious mental health problems, such as self-injurious behaviors and suicide, are on the rise, particularly among youth. Unfortunately, estimates of up to 60% of students do not receive the treatment they need due to stigma and lack of access to services.
